Tracks from WAVE9

”People may be like light, illuminating others or themselves, untouchable and able to pass through even the smallest cracks. Yet, they often choose to be confined—by the gaze of others, the confines of society, and the pursuit of wealth and status.”

Inspired by 𝐷𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑖𝑛𝑑, a film by Taiwanese director 𝐻𝑠𝑖𝑎𝑜-𝐻𝑠𝑖𝑒𝑛 𝐻𝑜𝑢, this track also reflects my early days in London.

The instrumental track was produced by Heng, who also stars in the video, with filming by Tseng, the co-director. The video reflects on the uncertainty and fleeting nature of youth, exploring the issue of striving for perfection or letting go. Inspired by nostalgia for Taiwan, Heng and Tseng chose Keziliao as the setting, symbolizing Heng’s final farewell before embarking on his journey to the UK.

Tracks from WUJ

In 2021, the year Small Oyster Rock was first held, Heng became captivated by the music of Xie Ming-Yo, which inspired him to start composing original Taiwanese songs. That same year, he released his first work under the name WUJ (Mullet Roe in Chinese). His debut song, Caltrop, symbolizes his longing for his hometown, and its gentle melody resonates with anyone who shares that sense of homesickness. Heng continued to release a series of Taiwanese songs until 2024, when he formed the indie band WAVE9 and began exploring the fusion of post-rock, Taiwanese music, and ambient sound design.
